100% Japanese Cotton – 'Conservatory' Earth

Cloth Edit Exclusive

  • 144cm Wide
  • approx. 130gsm
  • Thread Match Rasant #0277

I’m so excited to bring you ‘Conservatory’ in four colourways: Pink, Teal, Fern, and Earth. The name of the fabric is due to the occasional lattice motif you will find amongst the foliage. The design is restrained, but there is such a clever layering of wonderful details. The base cloth is one of Cloth Edit’s signature Japanese Uri Jacquard Cottons, which brings interest and texture to the design. If you look closely, you will see assemblies of arches that resemble subtle rainbows, and an interesting shadow pattern behind the plants. The colour combinations are thoughtful, making coordinating other colours a breeze.

The Earth Colourway is a real surprise! It’s superb for autumn (no doubt) but the inclusion of cool turquoise blues (and tiny moments of mauve) make this warm-toned print very wearable for those who usually steer clear of ‘browns’. The inclusion of golden hues, charcoal and olive green make it perfect for working with a range of plain colours. The Earth background colour has a lot of ‘copper’ and burnt orange. It’s fantastic.

The print is not directional. It is a very pleasing 144cm wide, which is much wider than most Japanese cottons.  The cloth is a little transparent. You will be fine with neutral undergarments for tops, but you will probably need a little lawn slip for dresses (unless the skirt is very full).

Cloth Care:

While cotton can generally be machine washed and tumble dried without any problem, this is a lightweight and delicate fabric, so take more care of the cloth/garment, so hand wash or use a short / delicate cycle and place inside a mesh washing bag.  Wash colours separately.   The finished garment will last longer and look better if it is shaken out when wet, and placed on a hanger to dry.  Tumble drying will shorten the life of the garment, and potentially damage the jacquard effect.  Do Not Tumble Dry.  To prevent fading, wash inside out and dry in the shade.   Cotton needs a warm to hot iron.  Conduct a spot test.  Cotton is dry cleanable.
