Club Cloth Edit - The 'House of L' Box

The Inspiration

The third Club Cloth Edit offering is inspired by the Italian fashion House that starts with 'La' and ends with 'Double J'. 

LDJ is a vibrant label renowned for its signature, unabashed use of bold print and it's 'Raison d'être' is to create a "joyful state”.  Their garments aren’t interested in trends. They’re designed by women for women, and there is a rejection of ‘quiet luxury’ and understatement.  

If you are unfamiliar with LDJ, I have created a Pinterest Board  for you.  I'd highly recommend you follow this fashion brand on Instagram, for endless inspiration, and check out their online store.  I am in love with their homewares and fancy a collection of beautiful plates.

The Fabric 

These fabrics were printed in Italy, EXCLUSIVELY for Cloth Edit.  This has been a secret, six-month long project.  Cloth Edit is also proud to announce that it has been selected as the exclusive Australian and New Zealand Stockist for the fabric brand.  More will be revealed once the boxes have been received by most customers.   It's very exciting. 

This special Club offering is a trio of unique, luxury Viscose Marocaine prints.  This is one of the best viscoses I’ve come across.  It is a substantial 140gsm, and made to Ecovero standards. It is officially a ‘crepe’ but it doesn’t have a very grainy texture. There is a soft silkiness to the finish. It’s not super slippery and is luxurious against the skin. It’s quite bouncy and is resistant to creasing and has good colour-fast qualities. Honestly, it’s dreamy…

The three unique designs were carefully selected from fabric brand's impressive collection of original print designs. Colours were especially finessed for Cloth Edit to better echo key inspiration pics from the House of L inspiration.

The Print | Colour Options

Rather than three colourways of the same print, we've done something fun, and very LDJ.  Each print option is not only a different colourway; it's a different design, but they are all very much inspired by the 'House of L'. Whilst House of L has lots of large-scale prints, these Club prints are predominately medium scale designs to offer a bit more versatility.  All three prints are perfect for looser tops, flowy pants and skirts, and of course dresses.  

The Cerulean|Turquoise & Red Option

The background colour is officially ‘Teal Blue’ BUT it has far too much Cyan or Cerulean for that official title I feel. There is that tiny touch of green that warrants a little nod to Turquoise though. The medium intensity cooler red is a perfect balance. The design is floral, with the biggest element of the print being about 6-7cm. It’s bold and spectacular.

Black & Multi Colour

This print is inspired by the stylised floral prints of House of L.  Rather than ‘natural’, soft forms, these blooms have interesting shapes and patterns. This design has a sophisticated colour palette that is unusual but ‘works’. You will find an array of greens (from teal blue-green, to fern, and a fresh olive), a light cool yellow, both cool and warmer oranges, a light warm red, cobalt blue, and stunning cooler pinks and purples, along with moments of warmer coral pink. The designers have such a great eye for colour and making a print very wearable for lots of skin tones. The bigger elements of the design are about 6-7 cm.  It's a stunning statement print.  

Pink & Green (The softer, romantic option)
LDJ loves bold designs, but they also design some more muted prints with a more romantic vibe. This colour combination is close to that of a LDJ print, but this print is completely original with a ‘tweaked’ colouring, done especially for Cloth Edit. The floral design is hand drawn and painted, and the fresh white background makes this perfect for keeping cool and calm on the hottest of summer days. There are variegations of soft pinks (think lemonade and soft flamingo) alongside a soft sage green and moments of black. The biggest design element of the print is approximately 6-7cm.  This is so romantic and pretty, but not predictable.

Each Print comes with Gift options of either a Pattern or a Sewing Related Item.  Only the Cerulean|Turquoise & Red Option comes with matching thread.  White or Black thread is perfect for the other two colourways, and is not included in the boxes.    You will be able to view the options on Friday 27th October. 

The Gifts: A Paper Pattern or Sewing Gifts

The Pattern

Cloth Edit has selected a super chic, 'House of L' inspired, easy wear, maxi shirtdress pattern (with a unique design feature).  This is the first pattern included in any Club Cloth Edit boxes.  The brand is NEW to Cloth Edit (and not well known), and we will have the full collection of their patterns in the shop one week after the box launch! 

Please note, to save on paper and shipping costs (which are huge) the pattern in printed on both sides of an AO sheet.  There is a little overlapping of pieces but nothing like Burda or even Fibre Mood.  The pattern comes with a colour booklet and instructions (in English).  I haven't heard anyone talk about this brand, so I'm excited to be working with them, and sharing their unique aesthetic.  This brand does NOT do PDFs.

There are two different sewing Tool Gift options (both are new to Cloth Edit).  These will be noted so you won't double-up if you get more than one box.

• A lovely 8 page, beautifully printed brochure where I have written about the inspiration for the fabric selection, share my first 'House of L' sewing plans, and offer some LDJ and Indie pattern inspiration.
• There is a special discount code for some special new releases that will become available the weekend after the boxes are released.    

The Presentation
This Club Cloth Edit comes in a quality white box with a magnetic closure, which should come in handy for storing your bits and bobs in your sewing space.  It’s perfect for your current project, sewing tools, or for your tracing supplies.  The ribbon is pink grosgrain, perfect for an embellishment or for gift wrapping, and the box features a lovely dot band.  It's meant to feel like a complete treat.
