I've been a little obsessed with the idea of a long, white embroidered dress; something that you might wear on Christmas day, but would also be perfect for the beach, and a wander along the esplanade. This stunning 'Heart of Hearts' cloth is a modern take on a traditional embellishment. The heart design isn't juvenile. It has a geometric look about it and the design is really interesting. The larger heart shapes are created with cutwork combined with crochet and lace elements. The design along the border features smaller overlapping hearts, which seem to form a butterfly. The edging and small flowers are formed via a couching stitch over the cotton thread.
The full width of the cloth is about 144cm, but only 114cm of this is the embroidered section. The design runs from selvage to selvage, so keep this in mind.
If you love this fabric and are a bit stumped as to what you might make, have a look at a special Pinterest board I've been working on. I was very happy to see Maison Fauve's 'Cuba' dress made in lace to showcase the more casual possibilities of this type of fabric, but also how you can also use it for something special like a wedding. I also love the idea of this cloth in a skirt or oversized shirt.
