Pattern Fantastique - Mersis Dress (and Top)
About the Mersis Dress and Top
The Mersis dress is breathe taking; it’s a shift dress for superstars. The Mersis draws on 1980s glam with its generous shapes and peek-a-boo features, suggesting more than they reveal. It has Dynasty balloon sleeves, a deep ‘V’ neck at the back and a midway ‘V’ for the front neckline. The Centre Front seam features a wide seam allowance topstitched down to enhance the long line from shoulder to hem. The centre front hem features a mitred corner finish, and a front split for the longer lengths.
The Mersis Dress has a shift fit; loose through the body and slight taper in the dress length hemlines. The ‘V’ necklines are purposefully cut to be above most bra straps and to minimise shoulder drop. The pocket openings are on the high hip to streamline hips and reduce lapline bagging. There's a lot of ease throughout the body, and the total ease for each key measurement is listed below:
- Bust- 15 cm • 5 7/8"
- Waist - 35 cm • 13 3/4"
- Hip - 6 cm • 2 3/8"
The Fabric
The Mersis Dresses and Top are best suited for mid to lightweight fabrics, that gather well. Consider soft cotton, poplins, drapey mid to lightweight linens, silks twills, rayon / viscose, Tencel and other cellulose-based fibres. Super crispy fabrics may require more patience when easing in gussets.
