‘Italian Interlude’ is the centrepiece of Cloth Edit’s 2025-26 Spring | Summer collection. Say hello to this exclusive, limited-edition patch-style print. It’s inspired by several of my favourite designers, but there are two in particular that love the patch aesthetic and play with the types of motifs I’m drawn to. Those two designer houses have been playing with patchwork for 10 years or more, with each iteration adding a fresh salute to the timeless, traditional craft. You can click on the link to my Pinterest board below to see all the inspiration for this eclectic design.
This patch ‘interlude’ is far from the demure reprieve between main acts. This interlude offers a break from the everyday, and is a celebration of Italian history, culture, nature, love of colour, and a nod to its icons of design. You will also notice that one of the patches happens to be the design for a stunning coordinating fabric: 'Adoro Le Rose'. I’m finding this so inspiring as I plan two co-ords that can be mixed and matched. I am (of course) also thinking about dresses in each to celebrate these beautiful prints.
Meet the ‘Patches’
‘Italian Interlude’ was slowly and thoughtfully created, as I strived to find the perfect balance of images, colours and patterns.
- Vintage variegated rose on a bold blue and white stripe (inspired by an Italian designer’s interplay of stripes and ‘scenes’ a couple of years ago. The rose is the perfect embellishment for this modern background.
- The ubiquitous and ever beautiful Blue Tile. This motif is so evocative of Mediterranean escapes.
- The gorgeous vintage Giraffe image on a pink and black polka dot background is an ode to that vibrant Italian brand who often adorns their prints with fauna. They also use polka dots so beautifully.
- The Horse in the clouds, finds inspiration from ancient Roman motifs in two designers’ prints.
- The Moth is an oft overlooked creature, and it can be just as beautiful as the more celebrated butterfly that adorns many designer prints. The denim blue foliage with orange flower add balance and interest to the collage.
- The Trevi Fountain is a symbol of Roman artistic ambition, and the bas relief of the goddess Salubritas, or Health, depicts the soft folds of ethereal garments. She has a spear on one hand, and a cup from which a snake drinks in the other. It symbolises healing and purification.
- Lemons have been popular for many years in the sewing community, but a particular Italian fashion house did it better than anyone 😉. This incarnation of the beautiful yellow motif also incorporates bees, which are a much beloved symbol for my family.
- Botanical prints and Monstera leaves always signify summer and relaxing holidays. Many design houses have used tropical leaves, and this image features a beautiful deep blue-green.
- Music motifs aren’t too common in designer collections, but I adore them. The Vintage Italian Opera Sheet Music is a perfect foil for riot of colour that surrounds it.
- The Red Rose Stems (aka ‘Adoro Le Rose’) is also the design of the coordinating fabric. There are so many designers who feature red roses, but I love this particular version. I found the design in my manufacture’s archives, and I played with the scale and colours. The blooms are a pinkish red, and the inclusion of the variegated green foliage makes for a very chic iteration of a floral classic.
- The Tuscany scene features a white-washed farmhouse and enchanting cypress trees, all under a Tuscan sun 😉.

Why Linen Silk?
This stunning cloth combines all the wonderful features of both linen and silk fibres: excellent breathability; beautiful drape; and cool and smooth against the skin. The amalgam looks and feels more luxurious than linen and opens opportunities for making garments for special events. Don’t keep it just for best though 😉. This is wonderful for wearing every day.
Enjoy using Cloth Edit’s Linen Silk for floaty dresses, blouses, skirts, and wide leg trousers. Really, it’s perfect for all manner of dresses, tops, bottoms and loungewear. It drapes in soft folds on and away from the body. If lined, more fitted silhouettes are on the table.
The cloth is also great for layering in cooler months as it’s smooth and doesn’t have a lot of ‘friction’ like a range of cottons and linens. The cloth has very good colourfastness and it’s easy to iron.
Cloth Care
- It’s washable by hand but I always use a delicate, cool, machine wash cycle (my tip - don’t overload the detergent and softeners)
- Medium Iron (spot test)
- Steam ironing is perfect
- Don’t use a dryer. It is a garment destroyer and will shorten the life of your garment. It is a quick drying cloth, so just hang your garment on a hanger to dry.
