About the Croatian Shirt

This traditional tucked linen shirt was worn by peasants, farmers, and shepherds in the Pannonian Basin, the northern farming district of old Yugoslavia (until World War II). It was originally made from homespun linen, but also in elegant in cotton, silk, and sheers.

This thigh-length shirt has simple straight panels of fabric, which are then tucked in front and pleated into shoulder yoke in front and back. The sleeves have underarm gussets and are pleated into cuffs. The notched collar and cuffs show the influence of tailored urban dress of it's time. The shirt has a front opening self-placket and buttons down the front. The pattern provides two lengths and can be made into dress length as well as the traditional thigh length garment.

The Pattern includes historical information and instructions for decorative stitching and tucking techniques for the yoke.

Sizing

The Croatian Shirt is a multi-sized patterns including sizes XS - XL.  See the Last image for the size chart.  There is a lot of ease in this design.
