Mykonos is one of the famous Cyclades islands; the awe-inspiring crown jewels of the Aegean Sea.
The stunning, white-washed houses depicted in this print have such an interesting history. In the late 1930s, the Greek government decreed the lime washing of houses on the Cyclades to promote cleanliness and keep certain diseases at bay. Whilst that was the impetus for the iconic motif, the benefits of painting the houses were multifaceted. The white also reflected the sunlight and thus kept the stone houses cooler in summer. In the aftermath of WWII, the stunning vista of white, sugar-cube houses also helped to relieve the misery of the war era, and by the 1960s, these beautiful islands became a magnet for the rich and famous.
This gorgeous design has a little 'Escher' about it, with the regular depiction of stairs. You'll love the variegated blues on the roofs, that are a little softer rather than bold and bright. The shadows are superb, bringing the light and shade of Mediterranean sundrenched architecture to life. I love the little details, like the lattice work in some windows, and the incorporation of ovals, squares, rectangles. The balance of angles and curves is perfect. I also adore the hint of a sunset, with the inclusion of the softest lavender and blue-grey. This is such a treat for summer makes. Enjoy!

Washing Instructions:
We recommend a gentle machine wash or hand washing linen. It is important not to wring the fabric or garment, so if you are handwashing, roll up in a towel to press out excess water. To ensure the long life of a garment, don’t tumble dry as this breaks down the fibres. If you do tumble dry the cloth, then do so on a cooler setting. It is preferable to wash inside out. Wash colours separately. Shake out the wet garment and dry flat (or on a hanger) in the shade. Use a warm/hot iron and spot test.
