This is a stunning rendition of an Aztec style print. The design features the geometry and symmetry you find in other designs inspired by Mesoamerican, but there is also a fluidity to the motifs that make this fresh. The lines, curves and dashes don’t have sharp edges; instead, there’s an attractive blurred appearance akin to a ‘wet on wet’ painting technique.
In addition to the soft blooming edges, the design includes some digital-style stippling. You’ll also notice that the colours themselves are variegated, so there is no one ‘pink’, ‘purple, or ‘olive’ but gradations of hues. The cloth is a lovely Viscose Satin, and at 135gsm it has a bit more weight than others that are around. I’m focusing on this weight (or a bit heavier) as I think it can be more versatile for this substrate.
Fluid Aztec comes in two colourways:
Aqua – One wouldn’t immediately think that bright aqua background would be ‘right’ for a design that features olive hues, but this is an extraordinary combination. Other colours are pinks, purples, and deep reddish brown.
Pink – the almost fluorescent pink background is so eye-catching and looks superb with the variegations of olive. You’ll also spot moments of pale coral pink, and mid and dark reddish browns.
