About the Cove Pant

The Cove Pants are part 1930s sailor chic and part 70s sportswear. These pants are determined to be worn by the sea. They are super high waisted with a back double layer yoke, and the front features paper bag style gathers created by double drawstrings over the front between hip pocket openings. The pocket bags are a single layer stitched through to leg with a wrap-over pocket trim detail: a high glam shape with streamlined finished. The Cove can be worn cropped or floor length (or anything in between).

The Cove Pants sit high on the waist above the belly button. The back and sides are cut to fit neatly into the small of the back and sit smoothly over the body. There is a fair bit of curvature to fit around peachy bums! The front has a gathered drawstring to create the opening. The gathering starts from the pocket trim (not the side seam) and runs across the front of the body. This creates a long drop from waist to hem without cross creasing interrupting the fall of the fabric, enhancing the long lines of the legs. The hem length is marked on the pattern and can be easily shortened. If you add length to the pant leg add double for the fabric requirement. When choosing a size, stick with the recommended size for hip measurements. The waistband can be gathered in or loosened for smaller or bigger waistlines.

The Fabric

The Cove Pants are best suited for lightweight fabrics that gather and compress well. The waistband will end up with a number of layers from the drawstring casing, drawstring and gathers.  The design is very strong and works best in papery cotton, poplins, shirting, drapey lightweight linens, silks twills, rayon and Tencel.

Sizing

The Cove Pant pattern includes a size range of 6-20, which related to a waist measurement from 62cm – 97cm (24 7/16” -  38 3/16”)
